CHESHIRE - Genevieve Mary Moneta, 80, passed away Friday April 30, 2010 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden.
Genevieve was born May 12, 1929 in Waterbury the daughter of the late John and Caroline (Skobliski) Moneta.
She was a Graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury and received her Associates Degree in Police Science/Administration from Mattatuck Community College. She worked as a switchboard operator and college receptionist and was the first Supernumerary Officer in the town of Cheshire.
Genevieve was an active communicate of Church of the Epiphany in Cheshire. She became a Lay Minister in Health Care, Bereavement and Catholic Evangelization and was certified from Francisan University in Steubenvillen, OH. She was also recognized for starting the 'Hotline to Heaven' program at the church. She was a commissioned Lay Minsiter for the Archdiocese of Hartford as well as a professed Secular Franciscan (SFO).
Genevieve was also known for her love of animals, especially Collies. She raised and entered them into dog competitions.
Genevieve is survived by her sister Carol Moneta Masonis and her husband Peter of West Hartford; her niece Tracy Trivas and her husband Alexander and daughter; her two nephews Scott and his wife, Jyoti and their son and Todd and his wife Elaine.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 4, 2010 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to Church of the Epiphany for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
