Carl Galgano Ii

Carl V. Galgano, II of Waterbury, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, June 19, 2011 after a long illness.
Carl was born on November 2, 1948 in Torrington, the eldest son of Carl Vincent Galgano and Marion Wells Galgano. He attended Torrington schools and enlisted in the Navy in 1969 and was stationed in Sasebo, Japan, Hong Kong and Long Beach, CA as part of MIUWS (Mobile Inshore Underwater Warfare Surveillance) during the Vietnam War era. He was honorably discharged in 1972.

Carl married Janis Nardello of Naugatuck in 1981. The couple resided in Naugatuck and then bought a home in Waterbury.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife and his father. Carl is survived by his mother, Marion who lives in Torrington and his siblings: Nancy Galgano Wurden and Glen Wurden, Ph.D. of Los Alamos, NM, Kathleen Galgano and Thomas Anderson of San José, CA, and Richard Galgano, D.O. and Gayle Larson of Newton, MA. He is also survived by his inlaws: Thomas and Diana Nardello of Waterbury, Robert and Joan Nardello of Cheshire, Joseph Nardello of Tuckaseegee, NC, and Richard and Deborah Nardello of Plantation, FL. Carl also has many aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Carl was an avid and talented musician, and student of the arts. He was also a photographer and poet. Carl started playing guitar professionally as a teen and his group was a house band at the White Hart Inn in Salisbury, CT. Carl entertained family, friends and groups with his guitar throughout his life. He played everything from jazz to Rock 'N' Roll to classical pieces, and explored many instruments throughout his lifetime. He was rarely without a guitar. Most recently, Carl had taken up the piano and delighted in playing the beautiful grand piano at The Village at East Farms, where he resided. Carl enjoyed creating improvisational music that expressed emotion and life. Music and art were key to Carl’s success in dealing with a difficult and disabling illness for much of his life. He inspired many family members and friends to explore and play music. Gatherings with Carl always involved music and fun. Carl’s family and friends lovingly will remember him for his generosity and kindness, his fun-loving sense of humor, and his profound talents and ability to create.
