Waterbury, CT Concetta “Connie” “Coni” (Gallucci) Gabriele, R.N., 83, the widow of Thomas A. Gabriele, Sr. and daughter of the late Pasquale J. Gallucci and Anna (Geruch) Gallucci, died peacefully on September 12, 2017 at her home after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She lived most of her life in Waterbury, wintering in Deltona, Florida. Coni graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1951 and St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She attended Mattatuck Community College and Central Connecticut State University. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital; as office manager for Dr’s Labriola, Faulk and Ransome in Naugatuck; as a staff nurse and then as a nursing supervisor at Waterbury Hospital Health Center as the nurse answering WHHC’s Physician Referral Network Program. She was a member of St. Mary’s School of Nursing Alumni Association and St. Lucy’s Church vocal and bell choirs. She was also an ongoing active participant in the Nurse’s Health Study of the Channing Laboratory at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital since 1976. She was also a member of NAACOG (Nurse’s Association of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) and was certified by NAACOG in OB/GYN nursing in 1983. She volunteered her vacation time to work as a nurse at Central Avenue School in Naugatuck after the flood of August 1955.

Coni is survived by her daughter, Donna Gabriele Stone of Seymour; her son, Thomas A. Gabriele, Jr. and his wife Jane Gabriele of Norwalk; her grandchildren, Jeff G. Steeves, Danielle Amelia Stone, Alexander Thomas Stone, Nicole Marie Penniman and Ashley Anne Gabriele; her great grandchildren, Michelina Gabriele Steeves, Gabriele Luke Rivera, Rhett Thomas Penniman and Eleanor Jean Penniman; her sisters, Mary G. Bridge of South Carolina and Dr. Paula G. Pettorini and her husband James Pettorini of Florida; her step-grandson, Benjamin Stone; her sisters in law, Louise Daddona and Angeline Carlotto and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and her parents, Coni was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Gabriele.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Lucy’s Church, 24 Branch Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending is kindly asked to meet at church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Calling hours are Saturday from 8:00-9:30am at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Coni’s memory, contributions can be made to St. Lucy’s Church, 24 Branch Street, Waterbury, CT 06704.
