Southington - Frederick H. Altfeter, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of Madeleine (LaPerriere) Altfeter.

Mr. Altfeter was born April 14, 1927 in Waterbury, the son of the late Frederick and Mildred (Slason) Altfeter. He was a longtime Waterbury resident before moving to Southington. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS FDR aircraft carrier. Fred worked his entire life in Manufacturing Engineering before finishing his career at Pratt & Whitney as a Tool Design Group Leader. He enjoyed sailing and Remote Control Airplanes and was a member of the Winding Brook R/C Flying Club.

Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his children Bruce Altfeter and his wife Gail of Plainville, MA, Madelyn Shore and her husband Kent of Sarasota, FL, Frederick Altfeter and his wife Ellie of Warner Robins, GA, and Ned Altfeter and his wife Marta of Cheshire; his sister Gertrude Pettinicchi of Wolcott; his 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Bobby; his sister Mildred Morrone; and his Dog Beau.

Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Avenue. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
