PLANTSVILLE - Frank C. Mazzella, 88, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Apple Rehab in Plainville. He was the husband of Barbara (Kelleher) Mazzella.
Frank was born November 4, 1925 in Ischia, Italy, the son of the late Giuseppe and Nicolina (DiMeglio) Mazzella. He was a member of the Italian Navy before coming to the U.S. in 1952. Upon his arrival, he lived and worked in New York. After several years, he moved his family to Connecticut and opened Ye Old Station Auto Body in Cheshire. He was active in the Cheshire Community over the years where he was one of the original members of the Cheshire Exchange Club. He was also a member of the U. S. Coast Guard and an honorary member of the Cheshire Fire Department. Frank’s passions included painting pictures of his home country, boating, fishing, and hunting. He and his wife often returned to Ischia where Frank enjoyed visiting his family and friends.
Besides his wife Barbara of 37 years, Frank is survived by his son John Mazzella and his wife Annalisa of Cheshire; his daughters Marlene Russo and her husband Robert of Torrington and Elizabeth Mazzella; his brother Pepinio and his sisters Anna, Giannina, and Rosaria Mazzella; his stepchildren Kevin Jones of Wallingford, Lynn Jones of Middletown, and Kurt Jones of Bristol; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Frank Jr.; his brother Pierino and his sister Clara.
ARRANGEMENTS - Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 at 9:15 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St., to St. Bridget Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheshire Exchange Club, P.O. Box 9, Cheshire, CT 06410 for the prevention of child abuse.
