Florence Bruno McGoey, 76, beloved wife of the late George William McGoey Jr., passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023. Florence was born and raised in the Bronx, NY after her parents, Filippina Provenzano Bruno and Saverio Bruno, immigrated to the United States from Calabria, Italy. She was the youngest of 9 siblings.
She and George married in 1968 and together they raised a family in Long Island, NY. She often said that her years on Long Island were the “best of her life,” hosting events for family and friends and involved in the busy lifestyle and activities of her children and community. Once she became widowed at the young age of 58, she spent time living near her children in Connecticut. She also moved to Florence, Italy for a short while to explore her roots and gain a better mastery of the Italian language. Florence eventually settled in Palm City, Florida and became a proud resident of the “treasure coast,” where she lived for many years, returning to Connecticut in the summers to live in Cheshire. Florence identified first and foremost as a mother and grandmother, and she also enjoyed many of the opportunities that life as a retiree and snowbird afforded her, particularly golf and traveling.
Florence leaves behind her daughter, Virginia Van Epps and her husband Scott Van Epps of Cheshire; grandsons, Bennett and William Radshaw of Cheshire; son, Daniel McGoey and his wife Carolina Perez de McGoey of Darien; granddaughters, Alexandra and Sofia McGoey of Darien; sister, Rose Marie Totari; brothers, Attilio Bruno, Anthony (Rosalie) Bruno, Sett Bruno and Ottorino (Mary) Bruno; sisters-in-law, Rosemary McGoey and Pauline Bruno; her companion and dear friend, George Bambrick; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Filippina and Saverio and her husband, George, she was predeceased by her parents-in-law, George William McGoey Sr. and Rose Gerard McGoey; her infant son, George William McGoey III; her brothers, Jack (Helen) Bruno, Frank (Isabelle) Bruno, Gaspare Bruno, and sister-in-law, Josie Bruno.
There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Stamford Yacht Club, 97 Ocean Drive West, Stamford, CT 06902.
