Naugatuck-Maria (Alipio) Fernandes, 83, of 104 Scott Street, widow of Jacinto Fernandes, Sr. died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at her home after a long illness surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Fernandes was born August 17, 1926 in Newark, NJ daughter of the late Manuel and Isabel (Barbosa) Alipio. She was a member of the Ladies Aux, of the Clube Uniao Portuguesa and a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Leonor Fernandes of Naugatuck, two sons, Jacinto (Jake) Fernandes, Jr. of Beacon Falls and Artur M. Fernandes of Naugatuck, one sister Linda Oliveira and her husband Antonio of Naugatuck and Florida. Three grandchildren Sarah Fernandes of Naugatuck and Crystal Fernandes and her fiancee Michael Harris of Manchester and Jacinto (Jake) Fernandes, III of Beacon Falls, four great grandchildren Tori, Jalen, Jacob and Dylan, three sister in laws, Balbina Alipio of Newington, Bina Nunes and her husband Antonio and Maria Tavares and her husband Americo both of Naugatuck.

She was predeceased by her brother Mario Alipio.

The funeral will be held Friday, February 26, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
