WOLCOTT- Evelyn (Piratzky) Mantz, died peacefully Sunday evening, March 22, 2020, at the age of 86, after a long-fought battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Evelyn was born March 21, 1934, in Jamaica, NY, daughter of the late Charles J. and Regina J. Piratzky.
She grew up in Elmont, NY. Through her brother Charlie, she met James E. Mantz, whom she married on December 2, 1956. They welcomed 7 children into their lives and were married for 56 years before James passed on. Evelyn was a stay at home mom for over 25 years, along with helping her husband at Jim’s Carvel in Waterbury, before joining the banking industry until her retirement in 1995.
Her children will best remember her immense compassion for stray animals and how she would bring them home whenever she could. Her grandchildren will always remember her delicious Polish cooking and her signature macaroni and cheese. Evelyn enjoyed Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every evening, along with entertaining family and friends at their home.
She was an active and dedicated member of Aisha Temple #83- Daughters of the Nile, Eastern Star, Goodwill #112, Sphinx Ladies Club, and Ladye Kaabans.
She leaves her 7 children; Scott Mantz and his wife Sue of Bethlehem, Donald Mantz and his wife Laurene of Wolcott, Gregory Mantz and his wife Darlene of Torrington, Lorraine Stevens and her husband Gary of Guilford, David Mantz and his wife Mary Ellen of Wolcott, Debra Mantz of Wolcott and James Mantz and his wife Deborah of Cleveland, NY. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Charles A. Piratzky and her sister Regina Gilvey.
The family would like to send special thanks to the entire community of Apple Rehab in Watertown for all the care they provided Evelyn over the last several years, especially Trish, her caregiver from day one.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
