WATERBURY - Esther Purdy, 95, passed away Friday June 14, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of the late Clayton Purdy.
Mrs. Purdy was born October 13, 1917 in Dublin, Ireland; she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Susan (Burke) McGuirk. Mrs. Purdy joined the British Army in the early 1940's and was stationed in London, where she met her future husband during an air raid. Following the war she became a permanent resident of Waterbury. She took on the life of a homemaker, enjoying time with her sisters-in-law, baking award winning apple pies, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She loved to travel 'home' to Ireland.
Mrs. Purdy is survived by her sons Larry and his wife Rosemary of Cheshire and Keith and his wife Donna of South Windsor; her sister Mary in Ireland as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 19, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until the start of the service at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
