Ernesto N. Paulate

Ernesto N. Paulate, age 80, of Cheshire, passed away Friday November 22, 2024 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. He was the devoted husband of the late Virginia (Orillaza) Paulate, and loving father and ‘Lolo’. Ernesto was born on November 10, 1944 in Jolo, Sulu, Philippines, eldest son of the late Martin and Cloe (Niguidula) Paulate.

Ernesto was a civil engineer and up until his retirement was a proud employee of General Dynamics in New London, CT where he worked on nuclear-powered submarines. He enjoyed working with his hands - a true tinkerer, he was quick to DIY and fix things around the home he shared with his beloved wife, Virginia until her passing in 2019. However, forever a child at heart, he was best known amongst family and friends as an avid model train hobbyist and took great pride in showing off his model train sets. 

Ernesto is survived by his only daughter, Kathleen Kiernan and her husband, Timothy of Cheshire; and his cherished grandchildren, Chloe, Lila and Evie. He also leaves his loving siblings, Erlinda O’Leary, Elenita Javier, Elfrido Paulate, and Ester Dizon all of New Jersey, Emerito Paulate in Washington, and sisters, Elora Acuba and Enedina Paulate of the Philippines. In addition to his wife, Virginia, he was predeceased by his brother, Edgardo Paulate. 

Friends may greet Ernesto’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410 on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 4PM until 6PM. On Saturday, November 30, 2024, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:15AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street, Cheshire. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bridget Church or to the Michael J.
