JACKSONVILLE, FL - Eric Wenkert Schrumm of Jacksonville, Florida formerly of Cheshire, passed away on September 7, 2012.
Born in Waterbury, Connecticut he was the son of the late Jewett F. and Eleanor Wenkert Schrumm. He is survived by his children, Christopher Schrumm of Rhoadesville, Virginia and Elizabeth Marino of Middletown, Connecticut; siblings Eleanor Schrumm Garlow and her husband David of Brooklyn, NY, David Schrumm and his wife Sally of Cheshire, CT and Jonathan Schrumm and his wife Eva of Cheshire, CT; many cousins; several nieces and nephews and two grandsons.
Eric was a graduate of Cheshire High School Class of 1965 lettering in football. He graduated from Syracuse University, Class of 1969 with a degree in mechanical engineering with academic honors. His career began with Grumman Corp. in New York working on communication refinements to the Apollo 11 lunar landing module and eventually the F15 jet fighter. Between 1977 and 1990 he served as an executive at Bristol Babcock in Watertown, CT. He moved to Florida serving as Chief Information Officer for forest resources firm Rayonier. More recently he worked in the defense industry in the Washington, DC.
Mr. Schrumm was elected to serve on the Cheshire Town Council from 1984 to 1986. He was a generous and caring grandfather to his grandchildren Gideon and Winston who he insisted call him "Poo-Bah". He will be missed for his candor, good humor and friendship by all who knew him.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Friends may visit with family at the funeral home on Tuesday September 18th from 5 pm to 7 pm.
