Mrs. Elsie E. (Brooks) Champagne, 73 of Waterbury died Sunday June 7, 2009 at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was the widow of John F. Champagne, Sr.
Mrs. Champagne was born October 22, 1935 in Cheshire a daughter of the late Melvin and Hazel (Leisring) Brooks. She was educated in Cheshire Schools and was a graduate of Cheshire High School. She was employed by the City of Waterbury for many years having worked at the Police Department and City Hall retiring on September 9, 1999. She enjoyed bible study, knitting and traveling and loved animals. She was her children's best friend and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a kind and loving person who had great faith. Mrs. Champagne was a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church.
She leaves her sons John F. Champagne, Jr. and Paul C. Champagne both of Waterbury, her daughter Linda L. Champagne of Wolcott, her brothers Arthur and Melvin Brooks, her grandchildren Christopher and Jason and her great grandchildren Sky, Jason, Kobe and Cameron.
Funeral services for Mrs. Champagne will be celebrated Saturday June 13 at 10 a.m. at Saint John's Episcopal Church 16 Church Street in Waterbury. Burial of her cremains will follow in Saint Peter's Cemetery in Cheshire. There are no calling hours. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue Foundation P.O.
