Ellen F. Cormier, Loving Wife, Adored Mother, and Precious Grandma
Naugatuck - Ellen F. (Kaminski) Cormier, 74, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the wife of Dennis Cormier.
Ellen was born August 16, 1949, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Matthew and Albena (Bernotas) Kaminski. Ellen and Dennis became high school sweethearts when they started dating in May 1964. They married on May 16, 1970, enjoying 53 years of marriage and a loving 59-year relationship.
Ellen loved and was truly loved by the ‘Cormier Clan’, whose family now numbers over 65 members. She was always there for her husband and children, attending Teri and Jennifer’s softball games while Dennis coached them. The Naugatuck Elks were a big part of Ellen’s and Dennis’ lives. She was a 25-year member of Naugatuck Elks Lodge #967 and was a member of the first women’s class to be initiated into the club on October 20th, 1998. The Bingo Committee was very fortunate to have her as their bookkeeper for 38 years. She was a member of the Naugatuck chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a charitable club for women. During her 45 years as a member, she was voted as the club’s ‘Woman of the Year’ and received the Yellow Rose Award. She worked for various local companies as a bookkeeper for 58 years.
She and her sister Barbara were very close and ate lunch together every Friday. During the early years of their marriage, Ellen and Dennis regularly attended dances with neighbors and close family friends, Nancy and Pete Garfield. Her grandchildren, Ethan and Jillian Chasse, were the loves of her life and brought so much joy into her life. Besides her husband Dennis she is survived by her daughters Teri Chasse and her husband Michael, and Jennifer Cormier; her grandchildren Ethan and Jillian Chasse; her sisters Joyce Manis, Barbara Howell and her husband Dave; her in-laws John Swierczewski, Jeanne and Stanley Remiszewski, Dianne Bedard, Oneil Cormier Jr., Ron and Valerie Cormier, Joe and Jacquie Cormier, Dan and Donna Cormier and many nieces, nephews and close friends. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Janice Swierczewski, and her brother-in-law Donald Bedard Sr.
Arrangements – Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Ellen’s funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Monday morning at 10:30 and proceed to St. Francis Church for Mass at 11am. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, P.O.
