Elinor J. (Fishman) Freedman, age 90, of Flushing, NY and formerly Waterbury, CT passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Paul Freedman, who passed away in 2019. Ellie was born on August 31, 1930 in New York City, daughter of the late Solomon and Bertha (Neufield) Fishman, and recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ellie was known for being somewhat of a “character.” She cherished her shoe, jewelry, and figurine collections, never missed a sunny summer day outside, and would not be caught without an umbrella to protect her hair from the elements. Ellie always saw blue skies or the bright side of life. She and her husband Paul were soul mates, sharing almost 70 happy years of marriage. Together they enjoyed many unforgettable holidays and celebrations with their family. Ganni, as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, adored being a grandmother and outfitted each in her hand-knit sweaters. She made sure to attend their plays and events, loved seeing the great- grandchildren, and always had a special affinity for the latest baby.
Ellie was loved by her children, Kim Toder and her husband, Scott of East Providence, RI, Jamie Cooperman of Great Neck, NY, and Todd Freedman of Chapel Hill, NC. She leaves her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ellie was predeceased by her sister, Beatrice Mohile.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 1PM in Hebrew Benefit Cemetery, Stillson Road, Waterbury. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury has been entrusted with her arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah.
