NEWINGTON, CT - Elena G. (Cortese) Greco, 92, formerly New Hartford, NY, Wellington, FL, and Cheshire, CT, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home in Newington.
Born in Utica, NY on December 16, 1922, Elena was the daughter of John and Catherine (Blondi) Cortese. On September 13, 1941 she married the love of her life, Joe (Joseph P. Greco) with whom she shared a union of almost 60 years until his passing on July 1, 2001. “Lee”¸ as she was called, worked for General Electric’s Light Military Manufacturing in Utica, NY for almost 20 years, and was an active member of her parish churches in New Hartford, NY and West Palm Beach, FL along with her husband. She expressed her creativity through her cooking of favorite family Italian dishes and through all of her various crafts which were done to perfection. Lee was an avid reader, and loved to play dominoes and cards, especially Pinochle. She rarely missed a NY Yankee game. While living in CT became a huge UCONN Women’s Basketball fan. Mostly, she will be remembered for her desire to always give a helping hand whenever possible and wonderful sense of humor.
Lee is survived by her daughters, Joyce Schwartz and husband Fred of Rocky Hill, and Kathleen Greco of Prospect and partner, Chuck Connell of Jensen Beach, FL; her granddaughter, Michelle Krieke of Phelps, NY; her former son-in-law Les Krieke of Ellington; her sister-in-law, Florence Capra of New Hartford, NY; several nieces and nephews as well as her god children Carol, Marty, Joanna, Doreen and Cathy. She was predeceased by her eight brothers and sisters Connie Giglio, Joseph Cortese, Nettie Flood, Catherine Schettini of NY, Mary Rocque, Margaret Schram and Dominic Cortese of FL, Rose Puleo of CA and their spouses; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Marge Greco of Utica, NY; brother-in-law, Joseph Capra of New Hartford, NY.
The family wishes to extend a sincere and heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the whole staff at Cedar Mountain Commons in Newington, CT for their loving kindness and assistance to Elena along with their special friendships.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 23, 2015, 10:15 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to ST. Thomas Becket Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in St. Bridget Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9:30 until the procession leaves for church. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
