Edwin D. “Ed” Walston, age 70, a lifelong resident of Cheshire, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his home with his loving wife, Charlan by his side. He was the devoted husband of Charlan (Butikofer) Walston for over 38 years. Ed was born on December 8, 1945 in New Haven, son of the late Edwin C. and Janis (MacLellan) Walston.
He served his country with honor and pride in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Ed was a graduate of W. F. Kaynor Technical High School in Waterbury and owned and operated Ed’s Appliance Service in Cheshire for over 10 years. After his retirement he worked for the Dattco Bus Company. In his spare time he enjoyed ham radio, and will be remembered for his comedic way and his charm. Ed was a member of the Cheshire VFW Post 10052, the Cheshire American Legion Post 92 and the NRA.
He is the beloved father of Eileen Schmucker and her husband, Todd of FL; Diane Hart of MD and Vicki Spencer of VA, and is survived by his 3 cherished grandsons; Ean Spencer and Ethan and Aaron Schmucker; his sister, Barbara Meyers and her husband, Bob of Winsted; his Uncle Donald and Aunt Aggie MacLellan of Cheshire, his many loving cousins and will be missed by his dog and faithful companion, Prince.
A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 10AM in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, Wallingford Road, Cheshire. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with Ed’s arrangements. At the request of his family, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans of CT, 35 Cold Spring Rd., Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
