WOLCOTT - Edward Wilensky, 96, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at VITAS at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Theresa (Simone) Wilensky.
Mr. Wilensky was born November 23, 1922 in Waterbury, the son of the late Joseph and Fay (Greenberg) Wilensky. He was raised in Waterbury and graduated from Crosby High School as well as the Army Air Corp Training School. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. He spent two years in the South Pacific, was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Philippine Liberation ribbon with the Bronze Star.
After his time in the military, Mr. Wilensky served as President of Davis and Nye in Waterbury before becoming Mayor of Wolcott in 1983. After his ten years as Mayor of Wolcott, he was a member on the Connecticut Siting Council and was most recently a Resident Advocate at Wolcott View Manor. Throughout his years in Wolcott, he was a proud member of the Wolcott Lions Club where he obtained Life Membership.
Besides his wife of 70 years, Mr. Wilensky is survived by his brother-in-laws Raymond F. Simone and Joseph R. Simone and his wife Gail; his nieces and nephews Susan Simone Jonsson, Peter Wilensky, Robin Miles, Joseph Jokubaitis and Lucas Andreson; several great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Lester Wilensky; his nephews Carlo Simone, Renato Simone, and Edward Simone.
Arrangements – Funeral services and burial were held in Edgewood Cemetery, Wolcott at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours.
