CHESHIRE - Edward R. Dalton, Sr., 95 years old of Cheshire made his transition on 07 February 2022 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts. He was happily wedded to Bernice L. (Riley) Dalton, who predeceased him after 57 years of marriage.
Ed was born and raised in Waterbury, the son of the late Marion (Payavais) and Howard Dalton. He is also predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Lanouette, and brother, Howard. Ed interrupted his secondary schooling to enlist in the U.S. Army, served honorably in the South West Pacific theatre, and returned stateside where he went on to earn his high school diploma and learn the tool and die-making trade at Scovill Manufacturing Company in Waterbury. Throughout his career, Ed worked for several, local manufacturing companies in Waterbury and Cheshire. He was a communicant at St. Bridget Church and the Church of the Epiphany in Cheshire.
Ed is survived by two sons, Thomas F. Dalton of Cheshire and Edward R. Dalton (Elizabeth) of Framingham, Massachusetts. He relished his time with three granddaughters: Kate (Gregg Quimby) of Groton, Massachusetts; Lauren McNair (Sean) of Framingham; and Kara (Timothy D’Onfro) also of Framingham; and enjoyed hearing about his two bright and lively great-grandsons Riley and Jackson McNair.
Following dear Bern’s transition in 2004, Ed came to enjoy the caring companionship of Mary Whitney of Waterbury. They traveled together and savored the company of friends at the Cheshire Senior Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 14 February, with the funeral procession departing from the funeral home at 9:30 am and proceeding to St. Bridget of Sweden Parish – St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street in Cheshire for Mass at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, 13 February from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main Street, Cheshire. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cheshire Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave.; Cheshire, CT.
