Edward Ronald Baker, age 83, Valatie NY resident, passed on to his eternal rest on April 5, 2025. Edward was one of three children born to Cecil and Edna Baker in Brooklyn, NY on April 13, 1941.
He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School 1958, Cooper Union College 1962 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and held high achievements in math classes.
He was employed by the City of New York and other engineering companies with a specialization in building bridges. One of his most memorable projects was the Chester PA to NJ bridge across the Delaware River.
Edward served in the U.S. Corps of Engineers during the Korean War Reconstruction in the DMZ zone. He completed his basic training at Fort Dix in 1962.
He lived in Brooklyn, NY for the majority of his life and then retired to Tinmouth, VT.
As a child, he enjoyed building with his erector set and playing with model trains. Edward spent hours of enjoyment outdoors walking the Vermont country roads with his beloved dog, Ringo. He sailed, watched football, enjoyed reading history, listened to classical music, and loved eating his favorite peanut butter balls and shortbread cookies. Edward faithfully cared for his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Carol Gardell of Cheshire, CT and by his nephews and nieces: Jon Gardell, Merry Day, Bill Gardell, Pete Gardell and five grandnieces and three grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Edna Baker; his aunt, Henrietta Wittenberg; and his brother, Richard Baker.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main Street, Cheshire, CT. A Funeral Service will take place at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at The Lutheran All Faith Cemetery, Middle Village, NY, date to be determined.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
