Edith (Edie - Nana) A. Paul, 78, of Cheshire, beloved wife of the late Allen Paul, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025. Edith was born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Edie's life began in Cluj-Napoca, Romania on July 2, 1946 when she was born to the late Ludwig (Lou) Hirschhorn (1916-74) and Piroska Hirschhorn. Edie is Hungarian and spoke German as a child. Lou wanted to start a new life somewhere else in the world after the war was over. It is believed that Edie's biological mother Piroska, passed away when Edie was very young. At three years old, Edie waved goodbye to her remaining family in Cluj and boarded a train for Munich with her father and a suitcase. They stayed in Munich for three years before sailing on a ship to Ellis Island.
At six years old, Edie arrived in America. They made their way to New Haven and settled there. Lou married the late Beatrice (Bea) Shanok (1916-2010).
Edie graduated from Hillhouse High School and not long after met the late Allen H. Paul (1947-2017) At age 20, Edie was married to Allen and they had their first son Andrew, and four years later Stephen was born. In 1974, the family moved to Cheshire. She was a member of Temple Beth David for many years. Edie was a stay at home Mom for many years before entering the work force. She was a lunch aide while the kids were in school, then a manager at the Burger King in Plantsville before obtaining a pharmacy technician position with Cheshire Pharmacy which later changed to Rite Aid. She enjoyed interacting with the town in this position for more than 20 years.
She enjoyed raising her family and attending sporting events for her children and grandchildren. The family ate at Rozzini's on a regular basis. When not at home, she was most likely shopping at Marshall's. Cheshire had always been home to her.
Edie traveled back to Cluj-Napoca Romania in 2005. She met three of her aunts, numerous cousins and other relatives. It brought that part of her family closer. A few members of the family traveled to Cheshire in 2006 for the wedding of Andrew and Ruth.
In her later years, she enjoyed outdoor community events, the beach, camping, shopping, and quilting. Her specialty was making baby blankets. If there was music playing, Edie was dancing and if the tv was on, she was watching Westerns or Lifetime. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as her dogs (Missy and Han Solo).
She leaves behind her sons, Andrew (Ruth) Paul and Stephen (Susan Gilchrist) Paul; grandchildren, Rozlyn, Regan, Liam and Emma. She also leaves behind her companion, John Koncewicz, who will miss her smile, her love for exploring, dancing and their friendship for each other.
