Baltimore, MD Maria Antonieta Duque, 96, the widow of Elviro Fernandes Duque, whom she was married to for 55 years, died October 25, 2024 at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center in Columbia, MD.
Maria was born December 29, 1927 in Lisbon, Portugal a daughter of the late Henrique Francisco de Sousa and Maria Joaquina de Silva. Maria was educated in Portugal and was a former resident of Naugatuck, CT. While living in Naugatuck, Maria was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury and she worked at Uniroyal, Inc. and for over 20 years at the Naugatuck Glass Company.
Maria is survived by her son, George M. Duque (Isabel) of Baltimore, MD; her grandson, Nicholas M. Duque of Naugatuck, CT; her granddaughter, Jacqueline Duque Canterna (Andrew) of Linthicum, MD; her great grandsons, Tyler Duque and Kyle Duque both of Pasadena, MD, Antonio Duque of Naugatuck, CT and Alexander Canterna of Linthicum, MD; her great granddaughter, Liliana Canterna of Linthicum, MD and her great great grandson, Atom Duque of Pasadena, MD.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Maria was predeceased by her brother, Joao de Silva e Sousa and her sister, Maria de Lourdes de Silva e Sousa Real.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT. Family and friends may call Thursday morning from 9:15 to 10:15 at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, CT. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck, CT. Donations to honor Maria’s memory are requested to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
