Dr. William Hillis

William Hillis, M.D., age 95, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 at his home in Wallingford. He was the husband of Barbara (Flynt) Hillis.

Dr. Hillis was born February 24, 1929 in Greenwich, CT, son of the late William A. and Marie (Weimar) Hillis. Dr. Hillis proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a medical officer aboard the USS Midway. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Hillis was Chief of Surgery at Greenwich Hospital.

Dr. Hillis and his wife were grateful for opportunities to serve as hospice volunteers and on the Hospice Board of Directors in Goshen. For several years Dr. Hillis and Barbara also were Health Care Ministries volunteers and participated in trips to Central and South America twice a year, their travels included, Chili, Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina, and El Salvador. He will be remembered for his kind nature and generosity.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Dr. Hillis leaves behind his daughters, Wendy Cutrufello and her husband, Ben of West Haven; Lisa Martin of Oneonta, AL; Zandy Starr and her husband, Rick of New Castle, DE; Jeri Hillis of Hot Springs, AR; and Jennifer Alvarez of Philadelphia, PA. He will also be missed by his six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dr. Hillis was predeceased by his daughter, Vikki Hillis.

Arrangements: Funeral Services for Dr. Hillis will be held at The Cheshire Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. There are no calling hours and the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dr. Hillis’ name can be made to the Masonicare Charity Foundation of Connecticut, or the Cheshire Lutheran Church, Cheshire, CT.
