CHESHIRE - Douglas Yocher, 79, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Saviello) Yocher.
Doug was born September 28, 1939 in New Haven, the son of the late Emil and Mary (Moffatt) Yocher. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Navy Seebees.
He was a firefighter for the Town of Hamden for 31 years, retiring as a Lieutenant in 2000. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Cheshire for 60 years, serving in various capacities and as Chief from 1984 to 1987.
He was a founding member and Treasurer for the Waterbury Area Fire Chiefs Assoc. for the last 35 years. Additionally, he was a member of the New England Association of Fire Chiefs, the New York Assoc. of Fire Chiefs and the International Fire Chief’s Assoc. Most recently Doug had worked at Michael’s Greenhouse and T and D Growers.
In addition to his wife of 43, years, Doug is survived by his daughter Carol Yale and her husband Scott of Meriden; his son Christopher Yocher of Cheshire; his grandchildren Hannah and Hunter Yale, and Avery and Evelyn Yocher; his sister Nancy Trayner of AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Edward Yocher.
Arrangements – A funeral service with Hamden and Cheshire Fire Department honors will be held on Friday October 5, 2018 at 10 am at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Burial with military honors will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
