Dorothy W. 'Sissy, Dottie, Meme' Reid

CHESHIRE - Dorothy W. Reid, (Sissy, Dottie, Meme) 88, passed away surrounded by her family Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Dottie was born in Port Chester, NY, to the late Walter and Marion (Lyon) Washburn. She graduated Greenwich High School in 1945 and Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 with her RN.

Dottie worked in the infirmary at Quinnipiac College for 27 years. She was active at the Cheshire Senior Center where she played poker, and also played bingo at St. Bridget’s Church. She was an avid Red Sox as well as UCONN Basketball fan. She loved camping and traveling but mostly loved her family. Dottie leaves son John (Skip) T. Reid III and his wife Barbara of Lynnfield, MA, two daughters, Robin Reid of Meriden and Karen (Kiki) Gilmore and her husband Roger of Hadley, NY, and son Steven P. Reid and his wife Nancy of Wallingford, her sisters, Betty Piper of Sherman and Carol Hempstead of Stamford, her beloved grandchildren Addie (Jessie), Laurie (Jared), Steven, Matthew, Nicholas, Jerry (Casondra), and Brian, and her four great grandchildren, Eryka, Fin, Chloe and Karlly. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Nancy Taylor of Rhode Island, her special friend, James Needham of Southington, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Jean Mazurak, Marion Manley, Ronnie Washburn, and her former husband John T. Reid, Jr.

Arrangements - A memorial service will be held at Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 S. Main St., Cheshire, on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
