Doris Wood

WATERBURY - Doris Irene Wood, 99, of Waterbury and formerly of Naugatuck, passed away Friday October 4, 2013 at Aurora Senior Living at Bucks Hill. She was the wife of the late Francis R. Wood who passed away in 1972.

Mrs. Wood was born February 28, 1914 in Naugatuck, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Parker) Solberg. She was educated in local schools attending Salem School and graduating from Naugatuck High School in 1932. She graduated nursing school in 1935 and worked for many years at Waterbury Hospital. Throughout her years in Naugatuck she was an active member at St. Michaels Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her daughters Doris "Bunny" Gondola and her husband Robert of Beacon Falls and Marilee Bontempo of Newington; her five grandchildren, Lori Paolello and her husband Michael, Michael Gondola and his wife Kathleen, Gregory Bontempo and his wife Chrystie, Jennifer McKenna and Scott Bontempo; her great grandchildren Corey, Michael, Zachery, Ashley, Jackie, Katie, Sarah and Ashleen and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters Margaret Sheridan, Alice MacDonald, and Evelyn Peterson as well as her brother George Solberg.

Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 8, 2013 at 11 am at St. Michaels Episcopal Church 210 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michaels Church 210 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is assisting with arrangements.
