Doris Gilchrist

WATERBURY- Mrs. Doris M.(Ackerman) Gilchrist, 78, of 83 Rockledge Dr., Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly at her home Sunday evening July 11, 2010. She was the wife of George R. Gilchrist.

Mrs. Gilchrist was born in Bridgeport, April 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Ivan and May (Ellison) Ackerman and had been a Waterbury resident since 1934, moving here from Bridgeport. She retired in 1992 as a Food Service Supervisor at St. Mary's Hospital after 10 years of service. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Waterbury.

Besides her husband of 59 years, she leaves two daughters, Linda Gilchrist of Coventry and Deborah Gilchrist-Blais of Westfield, PA; one sister Janice Schultz of Watertown, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her special cat, Georgie. She was predeceased by another daughter, Laurie B. Wence.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 am at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown. There are no calling hours.
