Doris Eleanor Kalweit

Doris Eleanor Kalweit, age 94, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Ingraham Manor in Bristol. Doris was born on May 14, 1922 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Richard and Ella (Schmidt) Kalweit, and was a lifelong Waterbury resident before moving to Bristol in 2009.

She was a graduate of Wilby High School, Class of 1940, and also attended Post Junior College, where she obtained her business degree. Doris was a stenographer for Waterbury Farrel Foundry and Textron of Cheshire for many years. After retirement she worked at Stop & Shop on Chase Avenue in Waterbury for 17 years. She was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Waterbury where she was active in many organizations and co –operated the church nursery. Doris volunteered at Waterbury Hospital and received their 100 Hours Service Award. She was a voracious reader and loved to sew and knit. She enjoyed crafts, bowling, golf, crossword puzzles, playing cards and watching baseball. Doris was passionate about playing Bingo.

Doris is survived by her loving sister, Mildred Minervini of Wolcott and her cherished nieces, Lorrie Minervini of Wolcott and Jodie Bannister and her family of La Grange Park, IL.

A Celebration of Life for Doris will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11AM at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave., 06710. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery in Wolcott. Friends may greet her family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10AM until 11AM. At the request of her family, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 1555 Hamilton Avenue, Waterbury, CT 06706.
