Dominic A. D’Amato, age 99, of Cheshire, entered into rest on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Elim Park Health Care. He was the devoted husband of Ann Marie (Boccamaiello) D’Amato for 62 years until her passing in 2012. Dominic was born on October 21, 1925 in New Haven, son of the late Domenico and Giuseppina (DiCosmo) D’Amato.
Dominic served his country with honor and pride with the US Navy in WWII. He had a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and was involved in the Research and Development of rolls and calenders in the paper industry for decades. He served as Engineering Manager for Calenders at Farrel Co. and Suizer Corp. A member of TAPPI, he has written and presented a number of papers. He was still consulting many years after he retired.
Dominic was a man of many interests, including, but not limited to, dancing, golf, bird watching, literature, movies, puzzles and word games, and mathematics. He also had a keen interest in music, from big band to rock ‘n roll to opera. He taught himself bridge in his nineties, and also self-published a book, Trisecting Angles and Other Solutions.
Dominic was the beloved father of Saundra D’Amato of Memphis, TN, and Robin D’Amato of New York, NY., and beloved father-in-law to Saundra’s husband, Michael Karcz. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (D’Amato) Ercolano of Hamden; and many loving nieces and nephews and extended family here in the US and in Italy.
Services for Dominic will be private and at the convenience of his family.
