NAUGATUCK - Mrs. Gertrude E. "Gem" (McGann) Dessureau, age 73, of Naugatuck, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Arthur E. Dessureau.

Mrs. Dessureau was born in Cambridge, Mass., on Jan. 14, 1939, a daughter of the late Francis and Gertrude (Norris) McGann. She was retired from the Glendale Center in Naugatuck where she worked as a dietary aide for many years and was a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck. She was a member of the Prospect Senior Citizens and was a huge New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and UConn women's basketball fan. She enjoyed having lunches with her "sisters" and spending time with her family and her dog, Buddy.

Mrs. Dessureau is survived by a daughter, Kathy Daisey and her husband P.J. of Naugatuck; four sons, Arthur Dessureau of Wolcott, Bill Dessureau of Naugatuck, Garrett Dessureau of Naugatuck and Jim Dessureau and his wife Dawn of Naugatuck; a sister, Judy Serben of Naugatuck; a brother, Robert McGann of Waterbury; seven grandchildren, Artie, Erin, Chris, Eric, Keith, Rachel and Jimmy; a great-granddaughter, Angelia; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Pam Dessureau; a granddaughter, Ashley Daisey; a great-grandson, A.J.; and a brother, Frank McGann.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708; or to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
