Denis F.C. Perry, 97, of Cheshire, CT, beloved husband of the late Kathleen A. Perry, passed away at MidState Medical Center unexpectedly on May 19, 2023 after a brief illness. In the week or two prior to this, Denis was still living independently in his home with support from his family and was very active e-mailing jokes and articles of interest, as well as getting together with his friends for lunch.
Denis was born on January 25, 1926, in Stockton-on-Tees, England, to the late Norman and Dorothy Perry. He graduated with First-Class Honors from the University of Birmingham in England with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and also earned an MBA from Northeastern University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
During WWII, he served in the Royal Air Force and at the end of the war he was commissioned as a pilot, flying England’s first jet fighter aircraft - The Meteor.
In 1952, he and his wife Kathleen moved to Canada where he had a position as an instructor in the Engineering Department at the University of Toronto. During his time in Canada, he also flew for the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Denis subsequently moved to the USA residing in the greater Boston area where he and Kathleen started their family. He worked throughout his life for various companies in the aerospace industry. His positions took him and his family to Belgium and Wilmington, Delaware before moving to Cheshire, CT in 1969, where he worked at Eastern Industries a Division of LFE for many years. At the time of his retirement, he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Denis will be remembered by family and friends for his wit and humor. He always took a genuine interest in people and was a loyal friend. He was known for asking a lot of questions in his effort to learn and to get to know people better. His family and close friends lovingly referred to him as “The Interrogator.”
Denis loved wine and good food and until recently he was making wine in his basement. He and his wife Kathleen along with their friends, enjoyed trips to Tanglewood in the Berkshires every summer. Denis loved learning and reading and could speak in depth on a multitude of subjects. His friends and family are very saddened by his passing and will find solace in the memories we all share.
Denis leaves behind his son, Jonathan Perry and his wife Joann; granddaughter, Elizabeth Perry; daughter, Andrea Perry and her husband Francis McGurk as well as many close friends.
Denis is in the care of the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire. No services will be held. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to The Cheshire Food Pantry.
