NAUGATUCK — Emanuel de Sousa, 63, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Rita (Pestana) de Sousa.

Mr. de Sousa was born on June 18, 1947, in Madeira Island, Portugal, a son of the late Alfredo de Nascimento de Sousa and Maria (DaSilva) de Sousa. He was a retired employee of Ansonia Copper & Brass. He was a member of the Clube Uniao Portuguesa in Naugatuck and a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was a veteran of the Portuguese Army and was in the National Guard in America.

Besides his wife of 43 years, he is survived by two sisters, Esmeralda da Sousa and her husband, Joquim, of Fall River, Mass., and Fatima da Sousa of Portugal; and three brothers, Joao Sousa, Homero Sousa and Sergio Sousa, all of Madeira Island, Portugal. He was predeceased by two brothers, Zeca and Carlos Sousa.

The funeral will be held 9:15 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury, for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
