Mr. David H. McGuinness, 64 of Waterbury passed away Monday November 30, 2009 at Waterbury Hospital after a long illness.
David was born May 9, 1945 in Waterbury a son of the late Joseph J. and Eleanor (Holmes) McGuinness and was a lifelong Waterbury resident. Mr. McGuinness was proud of his country and served in the following armed forces, the US Air Force, Army and Navy and was also a member of the American Legion Post #195 in Watertown. His lifelong volunteer services to the community were extensive. He was a volunteer at Saint Mary's, Waterbury and the V.A. Hospitals. He also mentored students at Bunker Hill Grammar School. David was an avid drum corps fan and was a participant since childhood. He worked with many drum corps groups including the Connecticut Hurricanes and most recently the Long Island Sunrisers.
He leaves his sister and best friend Carol Phelan, his stepmother, Joan McGuinness with step sisters Meg, Mary and Jill. He also leaves his cousin, Alan Coffey in addition to his nieces, Maureen, Christine and Summer Phelan and Jackie Laliberti and his nephews Mark and Michael Phelan and Alex Zhang.
A graveside service with military honors for David will be held Tuesday December 8, 2009 at 1P.M. at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to David's family.
