CHESHIRE - David "Spike" M. Cole, 83, passed away Thursday May 12, 2011 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of RoseMary (Phillips) Cole.

Mr. Cole was born August 28, 1927 in Hays, Kansas, the son of the late Floyd and Delphine (Meserve) Cole. He was raised in Ellis, KS before moving to Bad Axe, MI where he met his wife. He was a 32nd Degree Mason belonging to the Verona-Huron Lodge No. 365 F and A.M. in Bad Axe, MI. He served in the Merchant Marines and Army during WWII. He was President of Delp Company Wholesale Grocer in Reading, PA and was a Cheshire resident since 1971. He was an avid photographer and gardener. He loved feeding the birds, squirrels, and beloved dogs. His vivid accounts as a boy growing up in western Kansas, especially living through the dust storms, were fascinating and heartwarming.

Besides his wife of 63 years, Mr. Cole is survived by his daughter Laura Cole-Rose and her husband Gary Rose of Cheshire; his grandchildren Garrison and Meredith Rose and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Charles, and brother and sister Gordon and Gloria. His generous spirit was felt by all his family, friends, and anyone who had the great pleasure to know and love him.

Arrangements - A Memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Church, Cheshire, on Saturday May 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 59 Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St., is assisting with arrangements.
