Dallas Mae Edwards

Dallas Mae (Bubar) Edwards, a cherished resident of Cheshire, CT, and formerly of Danbury, CT, passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 103. Beloved daughter, sister, wife, and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dallas was a woman of extraordinary spirit and unwavering love for her family. She attributed her long life to her wholesome upbringing in Maine, a healthy diet, and her steadfast faith in God.

Born on February 14, 1922, in Bangor, Maine, to Dr. Earl Bubar and Doris Darling. Dallas attended Boston University, where she met her husband of 70 years, John Philip Edwards. Together, they raised six children. While balancing the demands of a young family, Dallas returned to school and became a dedicated first-grade teacher. Despite her many achievements, her greatest joy and pride came from family and friends, never missing a birthday.

A woman of simple pleasures, Dallas enjoyed a chocolate after every meal and a daily cocktail with the nightly news. She had a deep love for butterflies, gardening, and sewing. Even at the age of 98, during the early days of COVID-19, she put her talent to use by sewing homemade masks for family and friends. She enjoyed crafting dolls and playing games with her family. Throughout her marriage, late nights were often spent playing Scrabble, where despite her husband's extensive vocabulary, Dallas frequently triumphed. She also delighted in games of Rummikub with her children and grandchildren.

In retirement, Dallas and John spent their summers on Money Island off the coast of Stony Creek, CT. Though she often struggled with seasickness, her husband, an avid sailor, convinced her to become his first mate on voyages around the Thimble Islands. Their shared adventures took them across the globe, but Dallas’s heart always remained at home, where she found peace and happiness in the company of loved ones.

Dallas is predeceased by her husband, brother, young daughter, and three infants. She leaves behind 6 children, 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Dallas will hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew and cherished her. Now, she will soar with the butterflies she so adored.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will remain private.
