WATERBURY- Coral E. Whitney, 85, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 25, 1926 in Coral Gables, FL daughter of the late Russell C. and Emily Helen (Shumaker) Payne.
Coral was a free spirit and creative soul, as evidenced by her talent for painting, both in oils and watercolors. She was an avid reader and devoted countless hours of her time working as a volunteer reading to the blind. She had been a member of the South Congregational Church in Waterbury.
She is survived by two sons Mark W. and his wife Donna Whitney of Arizona, and Glen Whitney of Florida; two daughters Sally and her husband Jeffrey Dasovich of Oklahoma City, OK, and Susan and her husband Jason Frois of Waterbury; a brother Stanley and his wife Natalie Payne of Waterbury; a sister Betty and her husband Ladd Quiberg of Honolulu, HI; a sister in law Gertrude Payne of Waterbury; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A son, David C. Whitney, and brother, Willis C. Payne, preceded her in death.
Arrangements- A Funeral Service for Coral will be held Saturday June 23, 2012 10 A.M from The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710 to St. John's Episcopal Church for a service at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Meriden Rd, Waterbury, 06705. Calling hours will be held from 9 A.M until the precession leaves for church.
