Christine A. Tranquist, 54, of Meriden, CT passed away peacefully on January 3, 2016 at CT Hospice in Branford. Chris was born on June 9, 1961 in Southington, CT. She was the daughter of Mary Catherine Hauser Tranquist (deceased) and Arnold R. Tranquist of Portland, NY. In addition of her father, she is survived by her brothers, Arnold R.Tranquist Jr. (wife Jacquelyn Delay), Eric A. Tranquist (wife Patricia); and a sister, Catherine A. Donegan Jr. (husband William); and nieces and nephews, Morgan & Shawn Tranquist; John, Robert, Jeffrey & Ashley Tranquist; and William and Steven Donegan.
“Chris” was a 1980 graduate of Cheshire High School and attended SCSU for a while. She loved to write poetry, listen to music, watch movies and was an avid lover of nature, science and animals. In her day, she loved adventure and enjoyed hiking and mountain biking on unmarked trails. Always interested in how things work, Chris built two of her mountain bikes from scratch and also designed special bird feeders for her backyard friends. She could identify her feathered friends by their looks and by their bird calls; she also fed the squirrels and groundhogs who frequented the yard of her childhood home on Green Hill Lane and fondly gave them each a special name. In her lifetime, Chris saved three abandoned kittens she found in her travels and one dog from a shelter, all of which she cherished. An avid builder and flyer of model airplanes in her youth, Chris spent endless hours building, painting and flying her special remote controlled planes. Besides her home in Cheshire, Chris spent a year in Tennessee and then traveled the U.S for a while until she settled down in Meriden, CT in 2015. Burial will be private. In her memory, contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405, Animal Haven, 89 Mill Road, North Haven, CT 06473 or an animal rescue foundation of your choice.
