Lake Charles, LA Andrew William Cherhoniak, 69, husband of Colleen (Neary) Cherhoniak, died peacefully on September 11, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Andy was a former resident of Beacon Falls, CT and Naugatuck, CT.
Andy was born July 16, 1954 in Derby, CT a son of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Vera) Cherhoniak. Andy graduated from Laurel Ledge Elementary School, Naugatuck High School and attended electrical classes at Kaynor Tech. While working at Anchor Fasteners, Andy studied and became a Master Electrician. After receiving his Master’s License, he pursued his dream of owning his own company, Current Electrical Systems, LLC, where he worked for 49 years before retiring in 2015.
Andy enjoyed dancing to swing music and bluegrass. After moving to Louisiana, he also enjoyed Zydeco and country music. Andy always enjoyed working in his basement on electronics and other projects and he loved sharing his knowledge with his children and friends. In recent years he enjoyed spending time in his garage working on projects with the loves of his life, his twin granddaughters and he loved attending their activities.
In addition to Colleen, his wife of 44years of Lake Charles, LA, Andy is survived by his daughter and son in law, Katie and George Cestia of Lake Charles, LA; his son, Mark Cherhoniak of Laguna Hills, CA; his granddaughters, Frances and Louise Cestia of Lake Charles, LA; his sister, Diane Cherhoniak of Beacon Falls, CT; his brother, Gary Cherhoniak of Prospect, CT; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Andy was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew Cherhoniak, Daniel Cherhoniak and Richard Cherhoniak and his sister, Donna Cherhoniak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT. Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, CT. In lieu of flowers and to honor Andy's memory, donations are requested to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org.
