Cecilia, KY - Charles Smith, 87, of Cecilia, KY passed away January 11, 2010 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of Alvina (Justice) Smith.
Mr. Smith was born September 7, 1922 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Schuster) Smith. He was a WWII Army Air Corp. Veteran serving as a Radioman. He was a Clarkson College Graduate obtaining his degree in Electrical Engineering and attended Texas Christian University where he completed graduate work. He was employed by General Electric as an Electrical Engineer and for Colt Industries as a Robotics Engineer. Splitting time between Connecticut and Kentucky, Mr. Smith was known for his gardening as well as being known as "Mr. Fix It". Fishing was a passion for many years.
Besides his wife of 63 years, Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters Charleen Becker of Cheshire and Eileen Norris and her husband Robert of Tolland; his daughter-in-law Neina Phillips of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren Ryan, Jeff, Julie, Steve, Scott, and Cindy; and six great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son John Phillips.
Arrangements ' A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Dr, Cheshire. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. is in charge of arrangements.
