Charles Joseph Villecco of Wallingford, CT; formerly of Cheshire, CT passed away peacefully on May 10, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was 90 years old. He was the husband of 64 years to Josephine “Jo” Formica Villecco. Charlie was born on June 2, 1931 in New Haven, CT to the late Carmine and Maria Grace Villecco. He was predeceased by his brothers, Augustine, Dominic and Pasquale Villecco and his sisters, Alice Scialabba and Carmel Romano.
Charlie graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, class of 1949. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving as a US Navy Sonar Technician on a DMS. He was a career US Postal Worker and retired as an ODIS Manager. After retirement, he gave back to his community by volunteering at Parker Farms Elementary School in Wallingford as a mentor to the students, with focus on the students of English as a Second Language. He also volunteered for many years at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford.
Beside his wife, Jo, he is survived by his three children, Stephen Villecco (Lynne) of Cheshire, Janis DiTota (Michael) of Wallingford and David Villecco (Lauren) of Cheshire. He leaves ten grandchildren: Stephen Villecco (Ashlee), Daniel Villecco, Olivia Villecco, Benjamin DiTota, Nicholas DiTota, Jillian DiTota, David Villecco Jr., Stephanie Villecco, Paul Villecco and Caroline Villecco. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Charlie most of all loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings. He was proud of his grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events, dance recitals and school activities. Charlie and Jo enjoyed traveling in their retirement which took them to places from which their families had lived in Italy, throughout Europe, and Naples, Florida. Charlie was an avid golfer, and it was a sport he and Jo enjoyed together.
Charlie was a communicant of St. Bridget of Sweden Parish in Cheshire and for many years served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Thomas Becket Church.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice staff of the Franciscan Center and the staff at Comfort Keepers, especially Tina Dyer who took such good care of him for many months.
Charlie’s funeral procession will leave Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St., Cheshire, CT on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 10:30 am and process to St. Bridget of Sweden Parish/St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 N. Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial and Military Honors will follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. A period of visitation will be held that morning from 9 am until the funeral procession leaves for church.
