OXFORD- Mr. Charles C. Griswold, 87, of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Gertrude (Townsend) Griswold.
Mr. Griswold was born in Waterbury Jan. 27, 1925, a son of the late Loyal and Lydia (Beere) Griswold and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. He was educated in the Oxford school system and was a graduate of Seymour High School. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran having served aboard the U.S.S. Kidd. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with 7 Stars, the WW II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, and the American Theater Medal. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Naugatuck and was also a member of Crusader Post # 1946, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a retired employee of Risdon Mfg. Co. at their Waterbury plant where he was Manager of the Plating Division.
Besides his wife of 66 years, he leaves his children; a son, Robert C. Griswold of FT Lauderdale, FL; two daughters, Patricia Griswold-Sorrentino of Ormond Beach, FL, and Elizabeth M. Flach of Oxford; 3 grandchildren, Andrea LaFrance of Harwinton, and Michael and Matthew Flach of Oxford; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Linn Flach of Oxford. He was predeceased by a brother Llewellyn Griswold.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday Jan. 24, 2013 at 10 am at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial with full military honors will be in Grove Cemetery, Cross St. Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9 am until the time of the service.
