Naugatuck-Robert Harrison Cassidy, Sr., 79, formerly of Seymour passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013 after a thirteen year brave and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Bob was born on July 24, 1934 in Barton, VT son of the late Gertrude and Clyde Cassidy. He proudly served in the Air Force, stationed in San Francisco, CA and after an honorable discharge was a member of the National Guard.
Besides his beloved wife of 57 years and primary caretaker, Mary Lou (Mackstutis) Cassidy, Bob is survived by two daughters; Diane M. Cassidy and Robin L. Cassidy, both of Naugatuck, two sons; Robert H. Cassidy, Jr. and daughter-in-law Catherine Cassidy of Oxford and Wayde R. Cassidy and daughter-in-law Dianne Cassidy of Waterbury. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Another Great-grandchild will be born in November, 2013. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law Clyde and Pauline Cassidy of Calais, VT as well as several nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
He is predeceased by brother Bernard Cassidy of Florida and sister Harriette Smith of Florida.
Bob worked most of his life as a truck driver, most recently until the time of his illness by L.F. Powers in Waterbury. He also worked for Petrol Plus, National Transportation Company, Easter Freightways and Oates Brothers Trucking Company. He was a member of Teamster local 443.
Bob's family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Elliot Mathias and staff of Shelton for their thoughtfulness and courtesy in helping to grant Bob's wish to be cared for in his home. The family's gratitude goes to the Hospice staff for their help in making Bob's final days peaceful and comfortable. Thanks also to his many caregivers throughout the years who gave Bob the utmost respect and dignity as he battled this disease.
Funeral services and burial are private at a future date. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck is in charge of arrangements.
