Carolyn D. Tucker

Carolyn Clark (Davison) Tucker, 89 of Cheshire passed away Tuesday January 31, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Edwin Marshall Tucker.

Carolyn was born July 14, 1933 in Bad Axe, Michigan while her parents, the late William Franklin and Virginia (Vary) Davison and family were vacationing. She grew up in several towns in upstate New York, including Cortland, Rome, and Rochester, where she attended Monroe High School. from 1945-1947 Her Junior and Senior years of High School were spent in Newark, N. J. where she attended Barringer High School.  She attended Bucknell University, graduating in 1955 as an Elementary Education major.  While there she formed many long-lasting friendships that she maintained into her 80s.

Carol’s first teaching job was in Mt. Healthy Ohio, where she taught second grade from 1955-1956. In the fall of 1956, she joined two of her college friends who had been teaching a year in the North Haven, CT school system.  She was assigned to the second grade in Ridge Road School, where she taught for several years.

On June 28, 1958 Carolyn was married to Edwin Marshall Tucker, a banker, whom she had met on a blind date in September the year before. They were married by Carolyn’s father, a Baptist minister, in Newark, NJ.  After a lovely honeymoon to Nova Scotia, they settled into their first little home in Cheshire, CT.  After the birth of their first child, William, and before the birth of their second, Robert in 1961, they moved across town to a larger home where they stayed for 40 years.

While raising her family she enjoyed the flexibility of tutoring homebound or handicapped students in the Cheshire School system and did some private tutoring as well. As the college years for her boys approached Carolyn looked for a steady part time job and became Office Manager in a dentist’s office from 1978 to 1995.

Carolyn loved traveling with family and friends. Some of her favorite trips were to the Caribbean Islands, Switzerland and England, as well as Alaska and the Southwest.  Throughout her life, since her teens, she looked forward to spending time every summer at the family cottage, Cherry Lodge, in the Thousand Islands.  Many great times were spent there with family, and it has always been the center of vacation times and carries many fond memories.

Along with her husband, Carolyn was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire where she was a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and member of many different committees.  Many of her closest friends were made within the church family.

Besides her husband Marshall, Carolyn leaves her sons, William M. Tucker of Chicago, IL and Robert I. Tucker and his wife Jennifer Huestis of Woodbridge, her grandsons, Ethan and George Tucker, her brother, James V. Davison of Madison, WI, her brother-in-law, Robert Binhammer, her sister-in-law Beverly Davison both of Madison, WI and nine nieces and nephews.
