Carolyn N. Nowie, age 99, of Cheshire and formerly of Middlebury and Waterbury entered into rest on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Elim Park. She was the devoted wife of the late John R. Nowie. Carolyn was born on January, 14, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Henry and Concetta “Jennie” (Iarrapino) Navarra.

Carolyn was a secretary at Southbury Training School until her retirement in 1980. She was a longtime member of the Waterbury Women’s Club, the Waterbury Garden Club and Friends of Watertown Library. Some of her favorite pastimes were tending to the flowers in her garden and needlepoint embroidery. Carolyn enjoyed traveling with her husband and she was also a golf enthusiast.

She is the beloved mother of Carolyn Garthwait of Cheshire and Robert Nowie of Branford; loving grandmother of Michael Garthwait and his wife Sara of Enfield and Christopher Garthwait of Hamden. Carolyn is also survived by her cherished great grandchildren Madelyn and Samuel Garthwait and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Vincent and Dante Navarra and her son in law Gregory Garthwait.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:30AM in the Nelson Hall at Elim Park, 140 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire, CT 06410, with a reception to follow. Interment will be private and at the convenience of her family. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire has been entrusted with her arrangements. At the request of her family, memorial contributions may be made to Hartford HealthCare at Home, 300 Queen Street, Southington, CT 06489.
