Mrs. Carol B. (Phillips) Sewell, 96 of Rocky Hill, CT, formerly of Baldwin, NY passed away Saturday January 2, 2010 at the Atria Greenridge Place in Rocky Hill. She was the widow of Frank W. Sewell. Mrs. Sewell is survived by her daughters Joy Irish of Plantsville, CT, Judy Cooper and her husband Joe of Glastonbury, CT and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Sewell was born December 10, 1913 in Ozone Park, New York a daughter of the late William and Ann Victoria Phillips and has lived in Rocky Hill since 2003. She was a graduate of Jamaica High School, Jamaica Teachers Training School and earned her BS and Master's degrees from Hofstra College. She was the Principal of School #2 now known as the Florence A. Smith School in Oceanside retiring in 1982 after many years of service. After her retirement Carol travelled extensively, was on the Board of Directors at the Hospital Auxiliary of South Nassau Community Hospital and actively participated in Literacy Volunteers. She was devoted to her 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, taking a prominent role in their lives. Carol cherished her many Long Island friends, neighbors and Long Island/New York City heritage.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sewell will be held Wednesday January 6, 2010 at 11:15 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church 2375 Harrison Avenue in Baldwin, NY. Burial will follow in Flushing Cemetery. There are no calling hours. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Florence A. Smith School No. 2 Scholarship Fund 2745 Terrell Avenue Oceanside, NY. 11772.
