Carol M. DeSantis

CHESHIRE – Carol M. DeSantis went to her eternal rest on Thursday, November 12, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Thomas M. and Lorraine (Thorn) DeSantis.

Carol was a resident of Cheshire for over 42 years. She graduated Valedictorian form Wilby High School, Class of 1964. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Amherst College and her Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Hartford. She was employed in the Wolcott School System for 37 years as a Special Education Teacher. After her retirement, she worked at Naugatuck Valley community College in the Special needs Department. Most recently, she worked at the Berlin Senior Center where she developed wonderful friendships. She had been a Eucharistic Minister at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish for over 20 years and had served of the St. Bridget School Board as Secretary for 7 years. She also had been a Eucharistic Minister at St. Anthony Church in Prospect for 3 years.

Her happiest times were spent at her Cape Cod home in South Dennis for over 20 years. She had planned to retire there but illness halted that dream. She also enjoyed all the times spent with her many cousins.

Carol is survived by her sister, best friend, and caregiver Sandra DeSantis; her Standard Poodle Bridget; her special cousins and friend of 40 years Terry Meisel.
Her sister and family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, Hartford/Avon, and especially Dr. Timothy Hong for his excellent and compassionate care during this two and a half year journey. Also, thank you to her infusion nurses, especially Tiffany Wood and Karen Sena. Special thanks the Hartford Health Care Hospice Team who helped Carol and her family through her final days.

Arrangements – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 10 am at St. Anthony Church, Prospect with the Rev. Mark S. Suslenko, family friend and Pastor of Sts. Isadore and Maria Parish, Glastonbury celebrating Mass. Friends are asked to meet directly at church and there are no calling hours. Committal will follow in Queen of Peace Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
