Naugatuck, CT Margaret M. Carney, 77, wife of Henry L. Carney, III, died peacefully on June 5, 2023 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Margaret was born September 25, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY a daughter of the late William and Marie Mathews and was raised in West Haven, CT. She worked for 30 years as a court clerk in the Derby Superior Court, retiring in 2013.

Her greatest love was her family, especially her seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Margaret enjoyed cooking, shopping and caring for others. She was famous for her Thanksgiving Dinner, lasagna and ambrosia. She was a wonderful wife and mother, who was always there for her family when they needed her.

In addition to Henry, her husband of 57 years, Peggy is survived by her son, Henry L. Carney, IV (Alissa) and their children, Henry L. Carney V (Carla), Abbey Carney, Hannah Carney, Ashlyn Arcuri and Andrew Arcuri all of Naugatuck; her son, Shawn P. Carney (Emily) and their children, Rebecca Carney and Julia Carney all of Naugatuck; her sister, Kathi Proctor (David) of Reading, MA; sisters in law, Linda Mathews of West Haven, CT and Lisa Mathews of Belvedere, CA; brother in law, Timothy Carney of Sebastian, FL. Margaret also leaves one great grandchild, Henry L. Carney, VI and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Campane; her brothers, William Mathews and John Mathews and her sister in law, Patricia Ventura.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone attending is asked to please meet directly at church. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Margaret’s memory, donations are requested to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 280285, East Hartford , CT 06128
