Carlos Alberto Valente, 81, left this earth peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of family. He was the husband of Maria Albina Valente.
Mr. Valente was born June 14, 1935, in Pardilho, Portugal, the son of the late Jose Rodrigues and Carminda (Amador) Valente. He was a carpenter by trade and worked for L.G. DeFelice Construction and Cocchiola Paving. He enjoyed watching European Soccer, especially his team Sporting.
Besides his wife of 60 years, Mr. Valente leaves behind a daughter, Maria Margarida (Guida) Bastos and her husband Antonio, a son, Jose Carlos (Joe) Valente and his wife Alicia, both of Naugatuck, three grandchildren, Carlos Bastos and his wife Sara, of Manchester, Suzanne Rodriguez and her husband David, and Antonio Bastos and his wife Renee, both of Naugatuck, and five great-grandchildren, Stella, Jacob, Joshua, Olivia and Jonah.
He is survived by two sisters, Elaine Fonseca and her husband Joaquim and Ercilia Almeida and her husband Domingos, both of Naugatuck, and two brothers, Frederico Valente and his wife Ilda, of Naugatuck and Jose Alberto (Zeca) Valente and his wife Odete, of Portugal, and several nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his sister Lucilia Fonseca of Canada.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Waterbury. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108-3272.
