Carl O. Tartaglia Sr., age 85, of Lady Lake, FL and formerly of Naugatuck, entered into rest on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Cornerstone Hospice in Clermont, FL. He was the devoted husband of the late Evelyn (Kachman) Tartaglia, until her passing in 2001. Carl was born on April 14, 1938 in Bridgeport, son of the late Joseph and Lucy (DeBiase) Tartaglia and was raised in Stratford.
Carl lived most of his life in Naugatuck, where he worked as a meat cutter for Stop & Shop. In his earlier days he was an EMT for the Naugatuck Volunteer Ambulance and a member of the Naugatuck Volunteer Fire Department, Fire Police. He was always fixing things and was very handy. Carl was a very social person and was very quick-witted and loved to talk to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed woodworking and watching westerns on tv. He also loved riding everywhere on his golf cart. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree. He was also a member of the Elks club and various clubs in Florida. After relocating to Florida 11 years ago, he became a Eucharistic Minister for his new parish, St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church of Lady Lake. He made many friends in Florida and enjoyed going to dinner and spending time with them.
He is the beloved father of Carl Tartaglia Jr. of Ansonia; Carol Richards and her husband, Keith of Ansonia; Joanne Howarth and her husband, Bill of Everett, PA; and Donald Sprague and his wife, Georgann of Bristol. He also leaves his brother, Roger Tartaglia and his wife, Judy of PA; his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Friends may greet Carl’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770 on Monday, April 8, 2024 from 9AM until 10:30AM. At 10:30AM his funeral procession will leave the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11AM at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Rd., Naugatuck. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Queen of Peace Mausoleum, 2324 E. Main St., Waterbury. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by visiting, www.stjude.org.
