Thomas Francis Carey, 83, husband of Ann Marie (Lengyel) Carey, died peacefully on June 23, 2024 at his home, surrounded by loving family.
Tom was born February 6, 1941 in Waterbury, CT a son of the late Ambrose and Ella (Lasky) Carey.
Tom honorably served 4 years in the United States Navy, having been stationed at the Brunswick Maine Air Station. Tom worked as a logistics foreman at the chemical division of Uniroyal, Inc., retiring in 1999 after 36 years of service. Tom was a faithful parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer Church, a lifelong avid tennis and pickle ball player and a fan of NY Yankees baseball and the NY Giants football. A fun-loving yet gentle man, Tom enjoyed spending time with family and friends-especially his grandchildren. He had a deep appreciation and love for music, nature and travel.
In addition to Ann Marie, his loving wife of 59 years, Tom is survived by his children, Thomas Carey (Elaine), Ann L. Hofmann, Alicia Culver (Troy) and Leah Boice (Michael); his grandchildren, Austin Culver (Cameron), Brooke Schuster (Benjamin), Shane Carey, Kyle Carey, Sarah Hofmann, Caitlin Boice, Emily Boice and his great grandson, Ares Culver. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his sister, Joan Carey St. Martin and her husband, Edmond St. Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Everyone attending Mass is kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home Wednesday at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers and to honor Tom’s memory, donations are requested to Project Purple at www.projectpurple.org.
