President of the Cheshire Housing Authority, Bruce T. Klein, 73 passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Born June 4, 1942 , in Orange New Jersey, he was the son of the late Donald and Elizabeth Klein. A graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, CT, Bruce received an MBA from the University of Minnesota. Retired as Chief financial officer following 30 yr career in Pharmaceutical and Medical Services, he had the opportunity to reside in Belgium and Spain for several years.
Upon his return to the US, he and his late wife Lola Lewison, raised their family in Long Grove Illinois, where Bruce served his community in appointed municipal government positions and was elected as a Village Trustee , a position he held for 8 years.
Bruce Moved to Cheshire CT in 1999. Married to Sylvia(Pope) Nichols he was Appointed to the Cheshire Housing Authority Board in 2000, and was elected president of the board in 2002. Committed to serving the elderly and disabled, he supervised the management of the 48 unit Beachport Housing complex. Recognizing the need to provide affordable housing in our community, Bruce spearheaded the building of 26 new affordable housing units while overseeing the management of 8 affordable homes located through Cheshire. Bruce also served as a volunteer counselor for those dealing with substance abuse and addiction issues.
In addition to his wife of 16 years, he is survived by his daughter Lowen Klein and her husband Jason Ross of Madison, Wisconsin, his son Damon Klein and his wife Bushra of Northbrook, IL; his step sons Peter Nichols and his wife Donna of Norwich, CT and Thomas Nichols and his wife Aline of Cheshire: his grandchildren Soren Lola, Zain, Aila,
Matthew, Ina Sophia, Lucas and Victoria.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 8 at 1:00 pm. at The First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Drive, Cheshire. Burial will be private at the convenience the family. Calling hours will be held Saturday, November 7 from 5-7pm at Alderson Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street.
